Metropolitan Hilarion: Orthodox Christians in Ukraine render great service to the upholding of church unity
In his address at the grand meeting held in Moscow on the occasion of the DECR’s 70th anniversary Metropolitan Hilarion called the upholding of canonical Orthodoxy in Ukraine a most important focus area of the Department’s work.
‘We exert all possible efforts for providing the Local Orthodox Churches, Christian confessions of the world and the international community as a whole with objective information about cases of forcible detainer of church buildings and discrimination of believers in Ukraine.
‘However, it is Orthodox Christians in Ukraine who deserve respect and praise for upholding the unity of the Church which they love with sincere piety and remain faithful to the canonical church authorities after enduring the Uniate riots and the ordeal of the schism.’
