On April 25, 2016, the Russian National Commission for UNESCO held a general meeting at the Grand Mansion of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Among the attendees was Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR).

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, chairman of the Commission, gave an opening address.

The conference was attended, among others, by Ye. Borisov, head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), I. Belyakov, chairman of the State Council of the Altai Republic, and M. Shaimiev, counselor of state, Republic of Tatarstan.

The meeting considered various problems involved in the participation of the Russian State in UNESCO.
