On September 23, 2015, Archpriest Nicholas Balashov, vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), met with the deputy director of the Chinese State Administration for Religious Affairs (SARA), Mr. Jiang Jianyong, at the DECR in the St. Daniel Monastery, Moscow. As co-chairmen of the Council for Interreligious Cooperation, established in 2014 as part of the Russian-Chinese Friendship, Peace and Development Committee, they discussed a wide range of issues concerning the Council’s work including its membership, proposals for work plans, procedures for working cooperation, etc.

Participating in the meeting were also D. Petrovsky, DECR; Ms. Ding Saoshu, SARA department for external relations, and Ms. L. Afonina, Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of the Far East.

Mr. Jiang Jianyong came to Moscow for the 10th plenary session of the Russian-Chinese Friendship, Peace and Development Committee, which took place on September 21, 2015, in Moscow. It was chaired by B. Titov, Presidential Commissioner for Entrepreneurs’ Rights, and Mr. Dai Bingguo, a politician and diplomat, member of the PRC State Council (2008-2013). Among the attendees of the forum was Dmitry Petrovsky, DECR staff member.
