Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk meets with the chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the head of the Walk Free foundation
On April 23, 2014, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, met with the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, and the head of the Australian human rights organization “Walk Free”, Mr. Andrew Forrest, at the DECR.
In attendance were also Archbishop Ivan Jurkovic, Apostolic Nuncio in the Russian Federation, Ms N. Forrest, Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy, pro-rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies, Hieromonk Stephan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and Hierodeacon Roman (Kiselev), DECR secretariat for far abroad.
The Walk Free foundation is engaged in opposing today’s slavery through attracting the attention of the world pubic to this concern, mobilizing the efforts of business structures in combating manifestations of slavery at their enterprises, intensifying the efforts of prominent cultural, educational and religious figures in opposing slavery tendencies in the world.
The meeting focused on prospect for cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Walk Free foundation.
