On 13th January 2021 the representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus to the Patriarchal Throne of Antioch hegumen Arseny (Sokolov) visited in Damascus the Amal School for Disabled Children where he met with the school’s director Mosab al-Kanj, teachers and students, and presented as a gift to the school three wheelchairs.

The school’s director warmly thanked Fr. Arseny for the wheelchairs and requested that this humanitarian aid be continued.

At present there are studying at the Amal School 165 disabled children, the majority of whom are unable to move about independently. The school urgently needs children’s wheelchairs of varying sizes, disposable nappies and much more. The Amal School in Damascus is one of two Syrian schools for disabled children; the other is located in Aleppo.

The German-made children’s wheelchairs were purchased in Moscow personally by the Canadian benefactor of Russian origin Alexei Fiset and transported to the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus by Nellie Kuskova, the director of the humanitarian and charity programmes of the Russian veterans’ organization called Brothers in Arms (Boevoye bratstvo).
