On 20th September 2020, on the eve of the 40th day after the demise of Archimandrite Alexi (Chehadeh), director of the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development of the Orthodox Church of Antioch, a memorial litya was celebrated at his burial place in the Christian Bab Sharqi cemetery in Damascus, Syria, by Hegumen Arseniy (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarchal Throne of Antioch.

Praying with Fr. Arseniy were parishioners of the Russian church in Damascus.

Archimandrite Alexi (Chehadeh) did much work to support the needy and the people affected by the war, and was a great friend of Russia. He had expressed his appreciation to Russia in general and to the Russian Orthodox Church for their assistance in restoring the destroyed religious and cultural centres in Syria, as well as for supporting the Syrian Christians and rendering humanitarian aid to all the Syrian people.

Archimandrite Alexi, who died from after-effects of the coronavirus infection, had made a great contribution to the development of relationships between the Russian Church and the Church of Antioch, which are based on brotherly love, mutual support and deep trust.
