On March 2, 2020, a meeting took place with representatives of the Federal Board of the Junge Union, a youth organization in Germany, who have come to Russia to be acquainted with its political system and social order. The meeting was held at the Moscow representation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

The German delegation included Timan Kuban, federal chair of Junge Union; Cornelius Golemblewski, Gunge Union/Thuringia; Stefanie Franzl, Junge Union/Saxony; and Sebastian Sommer, Junge Union/Hessen.

Participating in the meeting were representatives of Russian public organizations and movements. The meeting was opened by Dr. Thomas Kunze, head of the Moscow representation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev, secretary for the far-abroad countries, Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), greeted the participants on behalf of the DECR chairman, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk. He shared the high appraisal given by the organizers of the meeting to the level of relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Foundation’s Moscow representation.

He also spoke about the participation of the Russian Church in the St. Petersburg Dialogue, a forum of the Russian and German public, as a member of its working group on “Churches in Europe”. Special attention was given to the project for Youth Theological Meetings, which has existed for seven years now and which enables theological students in Russia and Germany to familiarize themselves with the theological education systems in the two countries and to establish and develop academic contacts.

German participants asked Russian experts many questions concerning various aspects of the social development in Russia.
