Hierarch of Russian Orthodox Church visits East Timor
On February 20-21, 2020, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Metropolitan Sergy of Singapore and Southeast Asia, Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, visited the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.
On February 20, in Dili, the capital of East Timor, Metropolitan Sergy met with representatives of the Orthodox communities who in autumn 2019 sent an appeal to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, asking to receive them in the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.
Vladyka Sergy conveyed to all those present blessings from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The representatives of the Orthodox communities confirmed their cordial wish to become members of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Discussed at the meeting were various issues of pastoral care and organization of liturgical and parochial life in numerous communities. Special attention was devoted to the promotion of social work and translation of liturgical texts into the Tetum language.
