On 23rd December 2019, at the Grand Mansion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Moscow, the Organizing Committee of Russia Day in Foreign Countries held its regular meeting. It was co-chaired by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations; Mr. Sergei Vershinin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation; and Ms. Alla Manilova, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.

Assessing the work of the Organizing Committee over the past year, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk noted in his speech the active and efficient cooperation between all the participants in the project. “It is thanks to constant working contacts between the Department for External Church Relations and Russia’s Ministries of Culture and of Foreign Affairs that we have managed to successfully implement a wide-ranging programme of events in a number of foreign countries,” he said.

The DECR chairman summarized the results of the Russia Day celebrations carried out in such countries as Germany, Serbia, Tajikistan, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, France, and Cyprus.

The participants in the meeting discussed proposals for holding various events in 2020 and subsequent years, put forward by the Russian Orthodox Church, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
