On 30th November 2019, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, arrived in Warsaw. In the Polish capital the DECR chairman visited the Church of St. John Climacus, venerated its shrines and lifted up a prayer for the repose of the souls of the Primates of the Polish Orthodox Church buried near the church. At the premises of the Archdiocese of Warsaw, Metropolitan Hilarion met with His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland. Taking part in the meeting were also Archbishop Jakub of Białystok and Gdańsk, Bishop Paul of Hajnówka, and Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations.

During the long brotherly meeting held in the atmosphere of cordiality and goodwill, the DECR chairman and the Primate of the Polish Orthodox Church discussed various issues of inter-Orthodox relations and prospects of promoting cooperation between the two Churches.
