DECR chairman meets with newly appointed ambassador of Russia to Albania

October 28, 2019 – Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR) has met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Albania Mikhail Yu. Afanasyev. Until recently, Mr. Afanasyev was director of the Russian Foreign Ministry department for information support.

Taking part in the talk was also Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations.

Metropolitan Hilarion informed his interlocutor about the cooperation between the Russian and the Albanian Orthodox Churches.

They also discussed issues of mutual concern.

In conclusion of the meeting, Metropolitan Hilarion presented his guest with a token of the meeting and wished him God’s help and success in his new diplomatic field.
