Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk meets with Mr. Miklós Soltész, Hungary’s Secretary of State for Churches, Minorities and Civil Affairs
On 6th September 2019, while in Budapest, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, met with Mr. Miklós Soltész, Hungary’s Secretary of State for Churches, Minorities and Civil Affairs.
The participants in the meeting discussed various issues pertaining to the construction and restoration works at the churches within the diocese of Hungary of the Russian Orthodox Church – in the cities of Hévíz, Tokaj and Miskolc. All restoration works are to be completed until 2021.
The DECR chairman expressed his joy over the expected completion of restoration works at the Dormition Cathedral in Budapest in March 2020. The Government of Hungary rendered considerable assistance in the restoration of the church by allocating subsidies for the reconstruction of the cathedral’s tower destroyed during World War Two.
The participants in the meeting also discussed some of the issues concerning a forthcoming visit of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill to Hungary at the invitation of the country’s leadership.
