Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra: We recognize only one canonical Church in Ukraine – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church
On September 2, 2019, after the thanksgiving celebrated at the relic of St. Spyridon of Trimythous by Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail during his pilgrimage to the Greek Island of Kerkyra, Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra addressed His Eminence and his delegation from the Odessa diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The hierarch of the Greek Orthodox Church said, ‘We are pleased to welcome you, Your Eminence, on your birthday, on an island which has produced many saints, among whom St. Spyridon is particularly revered. We pray that the Lord may help your Church to overcome difficulties associated with a church schism and disorder. We recognize only one canonical Church, headed by Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine, who would often come to Kerkyra and serve here as an ordinary priest’.
In his response, Metropolitan Agafangel thanked Metropolitan Nektarios for the opportunity to pray at the relics of St. Spyridon and for his support of canonical Orthodoxy in Ukraine, the Odessa diocesan information and education department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports with reference to the Odessa diocesan press service.
