DECR representative meets with Ambassador of Ethiopia to Russia

On 9 July 2019, hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, visited the Embassy of Ethiopia in Moscow with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), and met with H. E. Alemayehu Tegenu Aargau, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation.

Discussed was the realization of agreements reached at the meeting of the head of the Ethiopian diplomatic mission with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on 11 June 2019 on the projects of the development of relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Church. These relations have got a new impetus after the visit of the Primate of the Ethiopian Church Patriarch-Catholicos Abuna Mathias to Russia, his meeting with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and the establishment of the Commission for bilateral dialogue conducive to which was a high level of cooperation between the DECR and the Embassy of Ethiopia to Russia.
