On 28th – 29th June 2019, the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of canonization of St John the Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco took place at the Cathedral of the “Joy of All Who Sorrow” Icon of the Mother of God in San Francisco.

Officiating at the festal divine services was Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Concelebrating with him were Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany, Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, Bishop Irenei of Richmond and Western Europe, Bishop Yevgeny of Nizhny Tagil and Nevyansk, Bishop Paisie of Lugoj (Romanian Orthodox Church), Bishop Theodosius of Seattle, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, as well as clerics of other Local Orthodox Churches, the cathedral’s clergymen and ordained guests.

The liturgical hymns were sung by the Archbishop’s Choir under the direction of Vladimir Krassovsky.

After the Liturgy a moleben to St John of Shanghai was celebrated, followed by a procession of the cross around the cathedral.

The archpastors, clergy and worshippers were invited to a festive reception held at San Francisco’s Russian Center.
