On 29 May 2019, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin, Bulgarian Orthodox Church, currently in Moscow on a trip as head of the group of teachers of the foundations of Orthodoxy in the educational institutions of Bulgaria.
They were joined in the meeting by Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev) rector of the metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Sofia; Archimandrite Teoktist (Dimitrov), rector of the metochion of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in Moscow; and Hieromonk Meletij (Spasov), vice-rector of the Sofia theological seminary.
During the talk held in a warm atmosphere of fraternal love and mutual understanding, there were discussed church situation in Ukraine, inter-Orthodox relations, problems and prospects of religious education in Russia and Bulgaria, and other topics of mutual interest.
Metropolitan Hilarion thanked the Bulgarian hierarch for support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and for his tough principled position on defense of the canonical order of Orthodoxy.
