Patriarch Kirill’s congratulations to V. A. Zelensky on his election as President of Ukraine

Dear Vladimir Alexandrovich,

Kindly accept my congratulations on your election to the high and very important post of President of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people, who have supported your candidature, pin on you great hopes for improving their life. You have been given a historic chance to unite the nation and make a personal contribution to the solution of economic and social problems in the county and to overcoming the existing conflicts and divisions. It is my conviction that it is possible to raise people’s living standards only through common effort of all the good-minded forces of society and their full-fledged participation in a nation-wide dialogue.

I express sincere hope for the end of the sorrowful period of persecution and discrimination against the Ukrainian citizens who belong to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

May merciful God help you in good works and initiatives and give you wisdom and strength in your work ahead for the good of the Ukrainian people.
