From March 23 to 29, 2019, Bishop Demetrios of Safita, Patriarchate of Antioch, was on a visit to Moscow to attend the international research-practice conference on ‘Ways of achieving interreligious peace: the role of theologians, diplomats and public leaders’, and to venerate shrines of the Russian Orthodox Church.

On March 24, the St. Gregory Palamas Sunday, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, assisted by Metropolitan Niphon of Philippople and Bishop Demetrios of Safita, celebrated the Liturgy in the Moscow church of Our Lady the Joy to All the Afflicted-in-Bolshaya-Ordynka.

During his stay in the Russian capital city, His Grace Demetrios visited the Donskoy, Sretensky, Danilov and Pokrovsky patriarchal monasteries and, at the invitation of Archbishop Ambrose of Vereya, made a pilgrimage on March 28 to the St. Sergius Laura of the Holy Trinity.
