On 1 July 2018, at a parish building of the Church of “Joy of All Who Sorrow” Icon of the Mother of God in Bolshaya Ordynka Street in Moscow, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, met with a delegation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony that had arrived in Russia on a working visit. The delegation included Dr. Carsten Rentzing, Regional Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony, Prof. Matthias Fischer, Ms. Katrin Tauber, Pastor Eva Gorbatschow, Pastor Wolfgang Müller, Prof. Nikola Schmutzler, and Mr. Friedemann Oehme. The guests were accompanied by Archbishop Dietrich Brauer of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Russia, Provost Yelena Bondarenko and Ms. Tatyana Petrenko. Taking part in the meeting was also Mr. Ruslan Akhmatkhanov of the DECR Secretariat for Inter-Christian Relations.

The guests shared with Metropolitan Hilarion their impressions of the visit to Russia. Bishop Rentzing told about the activities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony, noting the importance of teaching the basics of the Holy Scripture and faith at schools in this federal state of Germany.
