On March 22, 2018, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), and a Russian delegation, who came to Beijing for the sixth meeting of the Russian-Chinese working group for contacts and cooperation in the religious sphere, visited the Russian embassy in China.

At the entrance to the church of the Dormition in the embassy’s territory, Metropolitan Hilarion was warmly welcomed by the rector of the church, Father Sergiy Voronin, who presented the archpastor with an icon of the Dormition of the Mother of God as a sigh of gratitude for His Eminence’s efforts for normalizing the situation of Orthodoxy in China.

Russian ambassador A. I. Denisov gave a dinner in honour of Metropolitan Hilarion and his delegation. Present at the dinner was the Russian Federation minister for the development of the Far East, A. Galushka.

On March 23, Metropolitan Hilarion departed from Beijing. He and his delegation were seen off at the airport by V. Fadeyev, Russian Embassy senior counsellor, Father Sergiy Voronin, representatives of the PRC State Directorate for Religious Affairs, and A. Zhigarkov, third secretary of the Russian embassy in China.
