On March 18, 2018, the day of the elections of President of the Russian Federation, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), took part in the voting at Polling Station No. 40 located in School No. 1799 in Moscow.

Answering question from journalists after the ballot, Metropolitan Hilarion said, ‘I have voted for the man with whose name we associate our hopes for stable development of our society, for higher welfare of our citizens, for higher birth rate, for the state’s care of families including extended ones and for the stable development of relationships between the state and the traditional religious confessions, for peace and prosperity in our society’.
