Dozens of people died in the fire that broke out on January 26, 2018, in a hospital in the South Korean city of Miryang. A message of condolences over the tragedy was sent to President Moon Jae-In by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia:

Dear Mr. President:

 

I am profoundly grieved by the fire in a hospital in the city of Miryang, in which tens of people have died, received burns and have been intoxicated with carbon monoxide. The victims of the tragedy are infirm people who were helpless in the face of a lethal element.

Please convey my words of condolences to the relatives and loved ones of those who were lost and wishes of fortitude and an early recovery to all those who have been affected.

I am grieving together with you and the Korean people.
