On 1 December 2017, His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa arrived in Moscow to take part in the celebrations marking the centenary of the restoration of Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church.

Meeting the high guest at the Sheremetyevo Airport were Metropolitan Arseny of Istra, Patriarchal first vicar for the city of Moscow; Metropolitan Athanasios of Kyrene, representative of the Patriarch of Alexandria to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; Bishop Leonid of Vladikavkaz and Alania; and Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations.

The delegation of the Patriarchate of Alexandria includes Metropolitan Seraphim of Zimbabwe and Angola, and Metropolitan Meletios of Carthage.
