Primate of Orthodox Church in America leads celebrations marking 100th anniversary of election of St. Tikhon to the Moscow Patriarchal Throne and 115th anniversary of consecration of the Patriarchal cathedral in New York
On 19 November 2017, 24th Sunday after Pentecost, the clergy and parishioners of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral prayerfully celebrated the 100th anniversary of election of St. Tikhon (Bellavin) to the Moscow Patriarchal Throne and the 115th anniversary of consecration of the cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church in New York. His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of All America and Canada officiated at the Divine Liturgy on the day of celebrations. Concelebrating with His Beatitude were Bishop John of Naro-Fominsk, administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the USA; Archpriest John Jillions, chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America; and the clergy of St. Nicholas Cathedral.
During the Litany of Fervent Supplication, thanksgiving prayers were said in commemoration of the centenary of election of St. Tikhon to the Patriarchal Throne.
After the Liturgy, Bishop John of Naro-Fominsk greeted the Primate of the OCA, thanked him for the joyful opportunity to pray together on the 115th anniversary of consecration of the cathedral, and presented him with a panagia.
His Beatitude addressed the clergy and parishioners with a Primatial homily, emphasizing the importance of these memorable dates for all Orthodox Christians in America.
The Liturgy was followed by a brotherly repast, during which the hierarchs and clergy discussed various issues of cooperation between the Orthodox Church in America and the Patriarchal parishes in the USA, as well as the forthcoming visit of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon to the Russian Orthodox Church at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
