November 2, 2017 – Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in the Russian Federation, H. E. Grum Abay Teshome.

Taking part in the talks were Mr. Kassa Gebreyohannes Gebremichael, deputy head of the Mission, and Dr. Bellete Sisay Aragaw, economic expert, from the Ethiopian side, and Hieromonk Stephan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and Deacon Andrey Titushkin, office for the far abroad, from the DECR side.

In the course of the talk, Metropolitan Hilarion shared with the guests the impressions of his visit to Ethiopia in 2011 during which he met with the previous Primate of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Abune Paulos and attended a meeting of the World Council of Churches executive committee and had an opportunity to visit old Christian holy places in Ethiopia.

The sides discussed problems involved in the development of relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Church and the church participation in events held on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Russia and Ethiopia to be marked in 2018.

In conclusion of the audience the DECR chairman presented the Ethiopian ambassador with a token of the meeting.
