On 2 November 2017, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’ Department for External Church Relations (DECR) held talks with Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, chairperson of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany.

Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and Prof. Dr. Martin Illert, joined them at the talks held during the intermission between sessions of the joint conference of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Evangelical Church in Germany on Martyrs, Martyrdom, Christian Witness.

Discussed at the talks were current relations between the Churches and problems of mutual interest, including the cooperation between churches and society, the development of religious education and work with the youth.

Bishop Bedford-Strohm noted the importance of the work of Metropolitan Hilarion as the author of theological books. The DECR chairman presented the high guests with his work “Jesus Christ, Life and Teaching” in six volumes
