On 11-15 October 2017, the 4th International Conference for Pastoral Health Care was held on the Island of Rhodes. The main topic of the conference was the understanding of the notion of hope in the context of the Orthodox anthropology.

The tradition to hold such triennial conferences was established in 2008. The meeting offers opportunities to the pastors carrying out their service in medical institutions to exchange opinions and experience. More than two hundred delegates attended the conference in 2017, representing the clergy and theological schools of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the other Local Orthodox Churches.

The Russian Orthodox Church was represented by Archpriest Alexy Baburin, cleric of the Moscow Church of the Deposition of the Robe, member of the Church and Public Council for Biomedical Ethics, senior researcher at the Mental Health Research Centre.
