8th Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America takes place in New Jersey
On 2-5 October 2017, the 8th Annual Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America was held in Garfield, New Jersey. It gathered together 32 hierarchs carrying out their archpastoral ministry in the USA.
The Moscow Patriarchate was represented by Bishop John of Naro-Fominsk, administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, and Bishop Irinei of Sacramento, vicar of the Western American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.
Taking part in the Assembly were also hierarchs of the Patriarchates of Constantinople, Antioch, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, and of the Orthodox Church in America.
The participants in the meeting discussed various issues pertaining to the evangelization of the younger generation in today’s world. The Committee for Canonical Regional Planning presented a report on the cooperation between representatives of different Orthodox jurisdictions at the parish level in various regions of the United States. During the Assembly’s sessions, the invited experts spoke on the youth outreach problems both within communities and beyond, for instance, at the higher educational institutions, website of the Russian Orthodox Church in the USA reports.
