On 30 September 2017, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated Matins at the Cathedral of St. Alexis the Metropolitan of Moscow in Samarkand.

Concelebrating with His Holiness were Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan, head of the Central Asia metropolitan area; Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations; Archbishop Sergiy of Solnechnogorsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Administrative Secretariat; Archpriest Roman Zagrebelny, dean of the Samarkand district, rector of the Church of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God in Samarkand; Rev. Igor Babakov, rector of the Cathedral of St. Alexis in Samarkand; and the clergy of the Tashkent diocese.

After the service, Metropolitan Vikenty greeted His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and presented him with souvenirs made by the Samarkand craftsmen.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed all those present with a Primatial homily.

On October 1, the 17th Sunday after Pentecost, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Holy Dormition in Tashkent.
