September 23, 2017 – DECR chairman Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Great Britain A. V. Yakovenko, in London. The meeting was held in the format of working breakfast and lasted for two hours.

The sides shared their impressions of the conference on ‘The Future of Christianity in Europe’ and the presentation of the book by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill ‘The Mystery of Repentance’, which took place the day before. The book was published by the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations with the support of the St. Gregory the Theologian Charity and the Russian World Foundation. The two events attracted a great number of representatives of the British public and had a positive response.

Metropolitan Hilarion and Ambassador Yakovenko discussed a wide range of issues concerning the relations between Russia and Great Britain and also between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Church of England. Special attention was given to the situation of Christians in the Middle East and inter-Christian interaction in giving them humanitarian aid.
