Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, sent a message of condolences to His Holiness Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria over the death of Metropolitan Dometian of Vidin. The text of the letter is given below.

Your Holiness,

I respectfully express my profound condolences over the passing of His Eminence Metropolitan Dometian of Vidin.

Over all the decades of his archpastoral ministry, Vladyka Dometian was a good shepherd who not only took care of the flock entrusted to him, but also showed concern for the spiritual unity of all members of the Christian Church, where, according to St. Paul, Christ is all, and in all (Col. 3:11). Being a graduate of the Moscow theological schools, the late Vladyka always had in his heart love for his alma mater. He made a great contribution to the strengthening of traditionally fraternal relations between our two Churches and the peoples guided by them.

We are praying for the repose of the soul of the newly departed Metropolitan Dometian and wholeheartedly proclaim to him Eternal Memory.

With respectful love in the Lord,

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk

Chairman

Department for External Church Relations
