September 8, 2017 – On the eve of the trilateral meeting of religious leaders in Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with Chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshuqur Pasha-zade, at the Patriarchal and Synodal residence in the St. Daniel Monastery in Moscow.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church thanked the Head of the Muslims in the Caucasus for his visit to Moscow and noted the great contribution made by the sheikh to the development of dialogue between religions and peoples.

Allahshuqur Pasha-zade spoke about events held as part of the Day of Interreligious Solidarity declared by Azerbaijani President I. Aliyev.

The sides stated their willingness to continue cooperation in peacemaking and expressed hope that the forthcoming trilateral meeting will contribute to the healing of the conflict in the Caucasus.

Participating in the meeting from the Russian Orthodox Church side was Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), deputy head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR). From the Azerbaijani side there was Rashad Aliyarly, vice-chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Board.
