In his letter to His Holiness Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Holy See of St. Mark in All Africa and the Middle East, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, expressed his condolences over the explosions that had occurred in the Egyptian cities of Tanta and Alexandria. Over thirty people fell victim to the terrorist attacks. The text of the message is given below.

Your Holiness,

Please accept my condolences over the tragedies that have occurred today in the city of Tanta and in ancient Alexandria. Dozens of people who gathered together for common prayer on the Feast Day of the Entry of Our Lord into Jerusalem fell victim to yet another terrorist attacks. These tragedies are comparable to other recent atrocities, which have no justification. Today relatives of those killed in Egypt as the result of these evil deeds are grieving and seeking consolation together with the families of those who died in the St. Petersburg metro explosion and at the hands of killers in the centre of Stockholm. Their sufferings are shared by all people of good will who regard other people’s grief as their own.

May the Lord give rest to the souls of the departed in the mansions of the righteous, and may He grant strength and the soonest recovery to all those injured in the terrorist attacks.

With love in the Lord,

/+HILARION/
