On January 18, 2017, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met at the DECR with the Rev. Patrick Irwin, Church of England, who has been assigned by his Church to serve temporarily at the Anglican Parish of St. Andrew in Moscow.

His Eminence welcomed the guest, wishing him success in his new service. Father Patrick conveyed to the DECR chairman a message of greetings from the Head of the Church of England, Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury. The both gave a high value to the pastoral visit made by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to Great Britain in October 2016 and discussed a number of aspects concerning cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Church of England.

Participating in the meeting were also Hieromonk Stephan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations, and F. Champion, a staff member of the secretariat.
