The role of education in the prevention of radicalization leading to terrorism and violent extremism was the main theme at the 2016 Council of Europe exchange on the religious dimension of intercultural dialogue which took place in Strasbourg on November 9-10, 2016.

Opening statements were delivered by Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, by the Chair of the Ministers’ Deputies Ambassador Katrin Kivi, by PACE President Pedro Agramunt and by the Chair of the Human Rights Commission of the Conference of INGOs Michel Aguilar.

Taking part in the forum on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church were Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, and Hegumen Philipp (Ryabykh), representative of the Moscow Patriarchate to the Council of Europe.

During two days the participants discussed the education for democratic civil values in the context of cultural and religious diversity and the strengthening of the role of the family and women in the prevention of radicalization and violent extremism. The results of the discussions will be presented to the CE Committee of Ministers as an important expert material for the work of this international organization, website of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Strasbourg reports.
