Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, expressed condolences to the President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, Angelo Cardinal Bagnasco, over the earthquake in central Italy. The text of the message is given below.
Your Eminence,
Please accept my most sincere and profound condolences over the earthquake in central Italy, as the result of which hundreds of your compatriots have tragically died and been injured, and many houses and churches have been destroyed.
I pray to the All-Merciful God, asking Him to give rest to the souls of all those who untimely died, to grant recovery and consolation to their families, and to bestow peace and prosperity on the blessed land of Italy.
