In his letter to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople expressed condolences upon the tragic events on Syamozero in Karelia involving the death of fourteen people including thirteen children. The search for one more child continues.

The letter states:

Your Beatitude,

With great pain having learnt from the mass media about the strong storm on Syamozero in Karelia, which caused a tragedy resulting also in the death of children – members of your Church, we extend to your beloved Beatitude our profound compassion and pray that the Lord God may repose the souls of the victims of the tragedy and give consolation to their families.

May the Lord safeguard Russia and her pious people so dear to us from any natural disasters.

With fraternal embrace, love and respect,

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople
