On December 22, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations (DECR), met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Russian Federation, Mr. Carlos D. Sorreta, at the DECR. Present at the meeting were Mr. Luninging G. Camoing, third secretary of the Philippines Embassy, and Archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for the far abroad, and Ms O. Mazur, DECR secretariat for the far abroad.

Metropolitan Hilarion warmly welcomed the guest to the synodal institution. He reminded him of the historical presence of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Philippines. He also spoke about the role played by the Moscow Patriarchate in the Russian society today and about religious dialogue and cooperation.

They also discussed the situation in the Middle East, noting the miserable situation of Christians in the region.

Mr. Carlos Sorreta thanked Metropolitan Hilarion for the opportunity to meet and expressed hope for further cooperation between the Embassy of the Philippines and the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

In conclusion of the audience, the DECR chairman presented the diplomat with a token of the meeting.
