Hierarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church attends readings on the dialogue of Russian and Georgian cultures
Metropolitan Nikolai of Ahalkalaki and Kumurdoi, the Georgian Orthodox Church, currently on a visit to Moscow attended the 3rd Readings ‘Russia-Georgia. Dialogue of Cultures” sponsored by the Andrei Rublev Central Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art.
The conference was dedicated to the first director of the museum, David Arsenishvili (1905-1963).
On the first day of the Readings, Metropolitan Arseny of Istra, the first Patriarchal vicar for the city of Moscow, and Metropolitan Nikolai of Ahalkalaki and Kumurdoi celebrated requiem service for David Arsenishvili with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. Metropolitan Arseny noted in his homily the importance of prayerful remembering of mentors and wished God’s help to all participants in the conference.
Metropolitan Nikolai addressed the participants and told them about the outstanding role played by David Arsenishvili in saving the Anchishati church, a splendid monument of the Old Georgian architecture.
Among the reports delivered at the conference were those on the Georgian church art and architecture, history of the Georgian Orthodox Church, and veneration of the Georgian saints in Russia.
