Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk takes part in the work of Coordinating Committee of the Joint Commission for Orthodox-Catholic Dialogue
On 15-18 September 2015, the Coordinating Committee of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church held its sessions in Rome. Among those who took part in the meetings was Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations.
The sessions were chaired by Kurt Cardinal Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and Metropolitan John of Pergamon (Patriarchate of Constantinople). The participants in the meetings considered the document “Towards a Common Understanding of Synodality and Primacy in the Church in the First Millennium,” which had been approved as a basic text at the 13th plenary session of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church (Amman, Jordan, 16-22 September 2014), and later improved considerably by the Commission’s Drafting Committee in Rome in June 2015.
After making necessary amendments, members of the Coordinating Committee approved the draft document which will be submitted for consideration to the 14th plenary session of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church in 2016.
