May 28, 2015 – By the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) and with the blessing of His Beatitude Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, an academic conference on ‘The Legacy of St. Vladimir: Church, State, Society’ took place at the Ukrainian House in Kiev.

Devoted to the millennium of the demise of Grand Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostle, the event was organized by the UOC Kiev Theological Academy and Seminary.

The conference was chaired by Metropolitan Onufry. Opening it, he stressed the importance of the legacy of St. Vladimir and noted the fact that the conference was attended by representatives of both secular and ecclesial scholarship – which is a weighty testimony to the spiritual and social significance of the holy prince’s heritage. ‘I would like to wish all the participants and guests blessed success in studying our historical past and invoke God’s blessing on you all. May our Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercession of the Holy Prince Vladimir, preserve us in the faith and grant our land peace and harmony’, he said.

The conference focused on an analysis of many-faceted work of St. Vladimir and his legacy, the history of Christianization of Holy Rus’, historical memory of Vladimir’s baptism in Ukrainian literature and problems involved in church-state cooperation in studying the historical past of the country, the press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports.
