DECR chairman expresses condolences over the massacre of Ethipion Christians in Libya
The chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, has sent the following message of condolences to Patriarch-Catholicos Abune Mathias of Ethiopia concerning the murder of thirty Ethiopian Christians in Libya:
His Holiness ABUNE MATHIAS
Patriarch-Catholicos of Ethiopia
Your Holiness,
Please accept by sincere condolences over the tragic massacre of thirty Ethiopian Christians in Libya. Innocent blood has again been shed in the much-suffering land of Libya.
No argument can justify this brutal murder. All the more so that extremists dare try to use religious slogans to justify their evil deeds. They seek to implant fear and hatred in people’s hearts, to weaken the historically established relations between Christians and Muslims.
In these hard days, I pray to the Lord for the repose of the souls of the slain ones, for the consolation of their bereaved relatives and loved ones, for granting strength to the Ethiopian people in their opposition to extremism and terrorism.
With love in Christ,
+ Hilarion
Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
