In his message to Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, head of the Government of the Republic of Singapore, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, expressed condolences over the death of Singapore’s first Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. The text of the message is given below.

Your Excellency, dear Mr. Lee,

I was grieved to learn about the demise of your father, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew – the man who created the modern Singapore and was its leader for many years and true father of the nation, a gifted politician and a person of many talents and wide interests.

Please accept my sincere condolences which I offer to you and to all people of Singapore over this bereavement. The Singapore community of the Russian Orthodox Church is praying for peace in Singapore and for strengthening you in the service for the benefit of your people.
