DECR vice-chairman meets with Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Russia
On 13 February 2015, with the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), DECR vice-chairman, met with H.E. Mr. Marat Tazhin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation. Discussed at the meeting, which took place at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Moscow, was the preparation for the 5th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, due to be held in Astana on 10-11 June 2015.
As Archimandrite Philaret noted, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church attach great importance to this forum, held under the patronage of the President of Kazakhstan, Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev. Nowadays dialogue among religions becomes especially topical, the DECR vice-chairman said and emphasized that the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions is an important instrument for establishing peace and promoting mutual understanding among people and nations.
The delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church will take part in the forthcoming forum.
Congresses of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions have been held in the capital of Kazakhstan on the initiative of President Nazarbayev since 2003. This international platform brings together Christian, Islamic, Jewish and Buddhist leaders.
The Russian Orthodox Church traditionally takes part in the Congresses. The church delegation which attended the 4th Congress (on 30-31 May 2012) was led by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
