Metropolitan Hilarion blesses construction site of future students’ compound of Moscow Conservatoire
On January 27, 2014, Metropolitan Hilarion, in his capacity of member of the Board of Patrons of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatoire, blessed the construction site of the MSC modern campus. The ceremony of the laying of a symbolic capsule with a message to the posterity took place in anticipation of the 150th anniversary of the renowned school.
The event was attended by Minister of Culture V. Medinsky, MSC Rector A. Sokolov, and the head of the Moscow City Town Planning Department, Mr. S. Suschenko.
‘Russian musical education serves as a guideline for music schools throughout the world’, Mr. Medinsky said in his speech.
Addressing the gathering, Metropolitan Hilarion said, ‘In the year when we will celebrate the 175th anniversary of Petr Tchaikovsky, the Moscow Conservatoire named after him will receive a new building for its hall of residence intended for 900 people’. He stressed that ‘the Moscow Conservatoire is known throughout the world of music. We know how many outstanding people came out of its walls and we celebrate the fact that today there are new opportunities for extending the work of the Conservatoire and admitting new students’.
