On October 1, the Russian Orthodox Church’s representative in Thailand, Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), met Russia’s newly-appointed ambassador K. Barsky.

Father Oleg congratulated Mr. Barsky on his new appointment. They discussed the forthcoming consecration of the Orthodox church of the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers in Huahin and St. Sergius’s in Koh Chang.

Special attention was given to the church in Huahin in the light of the forthcoming 115th anniversary of the visit made to Siam by the heir to the Russian throne, Nikolay Alexandrovich (later the Holy Passion-Bearer, Emperor Nicholas II) and the celebrations to be held on the occasion.

They also discussed the support to be given to non-governmental Russian-speaking educational institution in Thailand and the need to enhance the security of Russian-speaking tourists in the country’s spas.

Father Oleg expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between the Church Representation and the Russian Embassy in Thailand. Mr. Barsky, in his turn, commended the good relations with the ROC Representation as well and expressed the wish to visit Orthodox parishes in the Kingdom during his tour of the country, the website of the Orthodox Church in Thailand has reported.
