In the evening of 6 October 2013, on the eve of the blessing of the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Podgorica, a solemn assembly was held by its walls.

Taking part in the assembly were Primates and representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches who attend the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan; the Primate, hierarchs and clerics of the Serbian Orthodox Church; President Filip Vujanović of Montenegro, ministers and members of the government of Montenegro, the Podgorica mayor, many residents of Montenegro, and members of the official delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Coastlands spoke at the solemn assembly. He said that the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, the construction of which began twenty years ago, is a place of reconciliation and fraternal forgiveness that can guarantee security in future. ‘The Cathedral gives hope for the victory of love over hatred and of light against darkness,’ he said and added that the church was a kind of an appeal to the freedom of worship established by Emperor Constantine in the Edict of Milan 1700 years ago.

President Vujanović also underscored the importance of the Cathedral in his speech.

After the ceremonial part, performers from Montenegro, Serbia, Russia and Greece gave a concert, and colourful fireworks illumined the sky.
