On 15 October 2012, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with H.E. Michael McFaul, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to the Russian Federation. They were joined in the meeting, which took place at the DECR premises, by Howard Solomon, deputy minister counsellor for political affairs of the US Embassy; archpriest Sergiy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for far abroad countries, and Miguel Palacio, a DECR staff member.

Metropolitan Hilarion wished Ambassador McFaul success in his work in Moscow and told him about the situation of the Orthodox Church in America and other Orthodox jurisdictions in the USA, as well as about the contemporary life and activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia and other countries of her canonical territory. The DECR chairman also hared his vision of the place and role of the Russian Church in social sphere.

The participants discussed other matters of mutual concern.
