Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, sent a message to His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, greeting him with the eight anniversary of his election as primate of the Orthodox Church of Alexandria. The text is given below.

Your Beatitude:

On the anniversary of Your election to the Holy See of St. Mark, Apostle and Evangelist, I respectfully ask You to accept my congratulations and best wishes.

Having ascended to the Patriarchal See of Alexandria eight years ago, You have worked tirelessly for the sake of preserving Orthodoxy among the time-honoured Christian population and also for the sake of disseminating Christ’s good news among numerous African nations.

Thanks to Your Beatitude’s active participation, the traditionally warm fraternal relations between the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Moscow Patriarchate are becoming even more stable and fruitful.

On this remarkable for the entire Church of Africa day, I offer up heartfelt prayers to the Lord, asking Him to grant Your Beatitude His inexhaustible help and strengthen You in Your hourly dedicated ministry.

With respect and love in the Lord,

/+ Hilarion/

Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
