Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, sent the following message of greetings to Metropolitan Daniel of Tokyo and All Japan on the occasion of his Name Day.

The Most Reverend Daniel

Archbishop of Tokyo

Metropolitan of All Japan

Your Eminence,

I would like to cordially greet you on the occasion of the commemoration day of the Holy Prince Daniel of Moscow who has been glorified for many Christian virtues.

You imitate your heavenly patron in your lofty service as head of the Japanese Autonomous Orthodox Church, but you abound in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us (2 Cor. 8:7). You have shown your full commitment to your calling during the recent trials, which fell to the lot of the Japanese people, by sharing with victims their grief, consoling those who suffered, giving hope to the weak in the spirit and serving your neighbours with charity and love.

I prayerfully wish you, Dear Vladyka, sound health and God’s all-powerful help in your archpastoral ministry, and to the flock entrusted to your care I wish wellbeing and multiplying.

With love in the Lord,

+Hilarion

Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
